WHY THIS PROGRAMME?

At the end of the training, we don’t ask: “Do you know what the data says?”
We ask: “What should we do differently because of it?”

Plenty of people can run a test. Far fewer can say which test the question needed, whether its assumptions held, and what the result means for the decision sitting in front of them.

◎

Choose the right test

Match the method to the question and the measurement level, rather than running everything and keeping whatever came back significant.

✧

Say what it means

Turn output into a sentence a manager can act on, with the uncertainty still visible in it rather than rounded away.

THE VANTAGE DIFFERENCE

We turn numbers into decisions — not into reports that get filed.

A table nobody reads cost the same to produce as one that changed something. This programme is built around the step most training skips: getting from the output to the choice somebody has to make on Monday morning.

✕WHAT WE AVOID

  • Statistics taught as a tour of the menus
  • Running every test until one comes back significant
  • Charts that decorate a report rather than inform it

✓WHAT WE DO

  • A real dataset of your own, cleaned and analysed
  • Tests chosen for the question and checked against their assumptions
  • Findings written so a non-analyst can act on them
THE 14-TOPIC JOURNEY

14 practical topics. Analysis somebody can act on.

The pathway is designed around what you will be able to do. You begin guided virtual learning as soon as you register, then build on it during three practical days in Nairobi, 25–27 March 2027.

6 Topics

VIRTUAL · START IMMEDIATELY

Planning the analysis, cleaning the data, and your first tests.

8 Topics

PHYSICAL · 25–27 MARCH 2027

Three focused days on modelling, the tools, dashboards and reporting, in Nairobi.

01 Register & start learning 02 6 virtual topics 03 8 physical topics · 25–27 Mar 04 Build & defend your plan

Proposed allocation: topics 1–6 are guided online and cover planning, cleaning and the first tests; topics 7–14 are worked through during the three physical days, where the modelling, the tools and the reporting are done with a facilitator beside you.

YOUR PRACTICAL OUTCOMES

By the end of the training, this is what you will be able to do.

Explore each topic below. The real test is whether the finding survives somebody asking how you got it.

A CERTIFICATE HAS TO MEAN SOMETHING

How do we know the analysis is sound?

An analysis is only as good as the questions it survives. What gets checked here is whether the test matched the question, whether its assumptions were tested rather than assumed, and whether your reading of the result stays inside what the data can carry.

Join the 14-topic pathway →
1
Bring your own data

A real dataset from your work, as messy as it actually arrived.

2
Clean it, and say what you did

Recoding, missing values and merges, documented well enough to repeat.

3
Choose the test and justify it

The question, the measurement level and the assumptions — before you run anything.

4
Read the output properly

Coefficients, fit and residuals, and what the output does not tell you.

5
Write it for a non-analyst

One page a manager could act on, with the uncertainty still in it.

WHAT YOU TAKE BACK TO WORK

Take back findings people can act on.

The reference material comes with the programme. The thing worth carrying home is your own dataset taken end to end — cleaned, tested, modelled and written up, with every choice along the way questioned by facilitators and peers before anybody acts on it.

Analysis plan matched to your research questions
Cleaned dataset with a documented cleaning log
Variable codebook with measurement levels
Hypothesis test output with its assumption checks
A regression model with fit and residual diagnostics
Charts, tables and a dashboard built for the people who will use them
A one-page findings note for a non-technical reader
Your own dataset analysed end to end — during training

✓

A finding, not just a certificate

Observable work, feedback and practical checks — and an analysis you could put into a report next week.

WHAT ANALYSIS IS FOR
✦ TRENDS, NOT JUST TOTALS

The numbers are not the finding.

A count tells you what happened. The work is in what it means: which way the trend is moving, who it is moving for, what is driving it, and what the organisation should do about it before the next reporting cycle closes. That is the distance this programme is built to cover.

What leadership actually asks

So what should we do?

Is it getting better or worse. For whom. What is driving it. What would change it. How sure we are. Those five questions sit behind every request for a report, however the request is worded.

An analysis is finished when somebody can act on it.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Everything clear before you decide.

What makes this different from other data analysis courses?

The programme is built around practical work rather than attendance. You bring your own dataset, clean it, choose and justify the tests, check their assumptions and write the finding for somebody who is not an analyst.

Do I have to work through all 14 topics?

Yes. The pathway covers all 14 topics, 6 guided online and 8 in the room, subject to the programme’s formal assessment decisions.

How are the online and physical topics taught?

The first 6 are introduced through guided online work before the workshop and cover the foundations. The remaining 8 form the focus of the three physical days in Nairobi, where the modelling, the data management and the reporting are done with a facilitator beside you.

Does the $80 count toward the total fee?

Yes. Under the standard-fee pathway, the $80 initial payment counts toward $580 and leaves $500 payable. The $480 offer is for early full payment, not the instalment plan.

When and where exactly is the physical training?

The programme is planned for Nairobi, Kenya on 25–27 March 2027. The exact venue will be confirmed by the Vantage Africa team before a final booking commitment.

Which tools does the programme use?

Demonstrations run across Excel, SPSS and Power BI, so you see the same analysis in the tool your organisation actually has. The reasoning is the same in all of them; the clicking is not.

Do I need a statistics background?

No. The programme starts from measurement levels and distributions. It suits M&E, programme and research staff who have data and need to do more with it than count it.

Can my organisation sponsor me or request a group course?

Yes. Contact Vantage Africa for an invitation letter, invoice or a tailored in-house proposal.
