About VAMEPA

The Vantage Africa M&E Professionals Association (VAMEPA) is a continental network that brings together Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) practitioners, trainers, researchers, and institutions dedicated to advancing the standards and practice of M&E across Africa.

Founded in 2023, VAMEPA serves as a collaborative platform where professionals from diverse sectors including government, non-profit, academia, and private institutions, connect to share knowledge, exchange experiences, and promote evidence-based decision-making for sustainable development.

We are driven by a commitment to build a strong, ethical, and well-equipped M&E community that contributes meaningfully to Africa's transformation agenda. Through our programs, events, and partnerships, we aim to strengthen evaluation capacity, promote best practices, and foster collaboration among individuals and institutions involved in results-based management and impact measurement.

VAMEPA operates on a simple yet powerful belief: when evaluators are empowered, data becomes more than numbers; it becomes a force for change, accountability, and learning.

Background & Rationale

Across Africa, Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) has become the backbone of evidence-based decision-making, accountability, and impact measurement. Yet, despite its growing importance, the field remains fragmented, lacking a unified professional voice, continuous learning ecosystem, and structured pathways for career advancement.

VAMEPA was established to close this gap. It is a pan-African association of M&E practitioners, scholars, consultants, institutions, and students who share a vision of transforming Africa's development landscape through excellence in Monitoring and Evaluation.

With over 500 members drawn from more than 30 countries, VAMEPA serves as a continental hub for knowledge exchange, professional growth, collaboration, and advocacy. It is anchored in African realities and powered by global best practices.

The VAMEPA Story

The story of VAMEPA is one of vision, collaboration, and continuous growth. Since our establishment in 2023, we have remained committed to advancing Monitoring and Evaluation practice across Africa through professional development, networking, and shared learning.

After training over 10,000 professionals across Africa, we recognized the need to bring them together as one vibrant community, a platform where M&E practitioners could connect, learn, and grow collectively.

Through ongoing engagements with practitioners, trainers, and institutions across the continent, we identified a shared aspiration: to strengthen the culture of evidence-based decision-making, uphold professional standards, and create stronger linkages among M&E professionals.

VAMEPA was founded to meet this need, uniting Africa's M&E professionals under shared values of integrity, excellence, and collaboration. Since then, we've grown into a dynamic network of practitioners representing government agencies, NGOs, academia, and development partners who are all passionate about the transformative power of monitoring and evaluation.

Today, we continue to build on that foundation by expanding partnerships, promoting ethical and professional standards, and fostering innovation within Africa's M&E ecosystem. Guided by our founding vision, we remain committed to equipping professionals with the skills, knowledge, and community they need to drive impactful, data-informed development across the continent.

M&E for Just Transition

Africa's development journey must balance economic growth with social equity and environmental sustainability. Our M&E for Just Transition focus area promotes monitoring and evaluation as a transformative tool to guide fair and inclusive transitions, whether in climate action, energy reform, or socio-economic development.

We build capacity among M&E practitioners and institutions to design, implement, and evaluate programs that address inequality, environmental justice, and inclusive growth, ensuring transitions are not only efficient, but also ethical, participatory, and people-centered.

Made in Africa Evaluation

Africa's development challenges and successes are best understood and evaluated through African perspectives, values, and contexts. The Made in Africa Evaluation focus area champions indigenous approaches to M&E that reflect the continent's diversity, realities, and aspirations.

We elevate African voices in global evaluation discourse and promote methodologies that are contextually relevant, culturally grounded, and inclusive. We support research, dialogue, and collaboration among African evaluators to advance home-grown evaluation practices, ensuring evaluations done in Africa are also truly of Africa and for Africa.
