WHY THIS PROGRAMME?

At the end of the training, we don’t ask: “Did you deliver the activities?”
We ask: “Who is better off — and can you prove it?”

Most programme reporting counts what was done: workshops held, people reached, materials distributed. All of it can be true while nothing has actually changed for anybody.

◎

Say what you expect to change

A results chain that commits you to an outcome, with the assumptions underneath it written down rather than hoped for.

Decide on the evidence

Monitoring data read as a decision to continue, adjust or stop — while there is still time to do any of them.

THE VANTAGE DIFFERENCE

Results-based management. Not results-based reporting.

A results framework written to satisfy a donor and then filed is paperwork. The same framework used to decide what to change in month four is management. This programme is about the second one.

✕WHAT WE AVOID

  • Logframes written for the proposal and never opened again
  • Indicators chosen because they are easy to collect
  • Reports that list activities and call them results

✓WHAT WE DO

  • A results chain that holds up when someone asks
  • Indicators that move when the work works
  • Decisions taken on monitoring data, in time to matter
THE 12-TOPIC JOURNEY

12 practical topics. Results you can evidence.

The pathway is designed around what you will be able to do. You begin guided virtual learning as soon as you register, then build on it during three practical days in Nairobi, 17–19 May 2027.

5 Topics

VIRTUAL · START IMMEDIATELY

The logic, the indicators and the plan for collecting the evidence.

7 Topics

PHYSICAL · 17–19 MAY 2027

Three focused days on data, decisions, evaluation and reporting, in Nairobi.

01 Register & start learning 02 5 virtual topics 03 7 physical topics · 17–19 May 04 Build & defend your plan

Proposed allocation: topics 1–5 are guided online and cover the results logic; topics 6–12 are worked through during the three physical days, on your own programme, with a facilitator beside you.

YOUR PRACTICAL OUTCOMES

By the end of the training, this is what you will be able to do.

Explore each topic below. The real test is whether you could show somebody what changed, and why.

A CERTIFICATE HAS TO MEAN SOMETHING

How do we know the results are real?

A number in a report proves nothing on its own. What gets checked here is whether the results chain holds, whether the indicator would have moved for any other reason, and whether the evidence behind each figure would survive somebody asking where it came from.

1
Bring a real programme

One you are running or designing, with its funding and its constraints.

2
Write the results chain

Outputs to outcomes to impact, with every assumption named.

3
Choose indicators that move

With a baseline, a target and somebody who can actually collect them.

4
Plan the evidence

Who collects what, how often, and how you will know it is any good.

5
Defend it

To colleagues asking what a donor, an auditor and your board will ask.

WHAT YOU LEAVE WITH

A programme you can prove is working.

The reference material comes with the programme. The thing worth carrying home is your own results architecture — the chain, the framework, the indicators and the monitoring plan — argued through with facilitators and peers before a donor ever sees it.

A theory of change with its assumptions
A results framework and logframe
Indicator reference sheets with baselines and targets
A performance monitoring plan with named collectors
Data quality checks you can run routinely
A performance dashboard for your programme
A results report that leads with outcomes
Your own programme’s results architecture — built during training

WHAT MANAGING FOR RESULTS MEANS
✦ DECISIONS, NOT JUST REPORTS

Activities get delivered. Results get managed.

Most programmes run the workplan and hope the result follows. Results-based management is the discipline of steering towards the result instead — asking in month four whether it is actually happening, while continuing, adjusting or stopping are all still open to you.

See the 12 topics →
In time to matter

Continue, adjust or stop.

Three decisions, taken on evidence, at a point in the cycle where any of them is still possible — and defensible to the donor afterwards.

One of the 12 topics is given to adaptive decisions directly.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Everything clear before you decide.

What makes this different from other RBM courses?

The programme is built around practical work rather than attendance. You rebuild your own programme’s results architecture and defend it to colleagues asking what a donor, an auditor and your board will ask.

Do I have to work through all 12 topics?

Yes. The pathway covers all 12 topics, 5 guided online and 7 in the room, subject to the programme’s formal assessment decisions.

How are the online and physical topics taught?

The first 5 are introduced through guided online work before the workshop and cover the results logic. The remaining 7 form the focus of the three physical days in Nairobi, spent on data, decisions, evaluation and reporting.

Does the $80 count toward the total fee?

Yes. Under the standard-fee pathway, the $80 initial payment counts toward $580 and leaves $500 payable. The $480 offer is for early full payment, not the instalment plan.

When and where exactly is the physical training?

The programme is planned for Nairobi, Kenya on 17–19 May 2027. The exact venue will be confirmed by the Vantage Africa team before a final booking commitment.

How is this different from the CMEP programme?

CMEP is the professional certification for people who do monitoring and evaluation as their job, assessed across 27 competencies. This one is for the manager accountable for the programme’s results. They share a vocabulary and many organisations send people to both.

Do I need a programme of my own to attend?

It helps, and most participants bring one. A proposal in development works just as well — the results chain is usually where a proposal gets stronger.

Can my organisation sponsor me or request a group course?

Yes. Contact Vantage Africa for an invitation letter, invoice or a tailored in-house proposal.
