WHY THIS PROGRAMME?

At the end of the training, we don’t ask: “Did you consult them?”
We ask: “Who speaks for you — whether or not you are in the room?”

Projects are rarely stopped by the people who argue in the meeting. They are stopped by the ones who said nothing, were never asked, and had the standing to object later.

◎

Know who can stop you

Power and interest mapped honestly, so the objection arrives in your planning rather than in your launch.

✧

Ask for what they need

Engagement built on what the other side is trying to achieve, which is what turns a stakeholder into a partner.

THE VANTAGE DIFFERENCE

Relationships you can call on. Not a contact list.

A workshop attended, a courtesy call paid and a memorandum signed can all be done perfectly while nobody will defend you when it matters. This programme is about the kind of relationship that holds under pressure.

✕WHAT WE AVOID

  • Consultation held because the donor required one
  • Stakeholder lists that name only the friendly
  • Partnerships that end at the signing photograph

✓WHAT WE DO

  • A map that includes the people who could block you
  • Agreements with decision rights, money and exit written down
  • Feedback that reaches you before the complaint does
THE 12-TOPIC JOURNEY

12 practical topics. Support you can count on.

The pathway is designed around what you will be able to do. You begin guided virtual learning as soon as you register, then build on it during three practical days in Nairobi, 21–23 June 2027.

5 Topics

VIRTUAL · START IMMEDIATELY

Who holds a stake, power and interest, reading the politics, and the engagement strategy.

7 Topics

PHYSICAL · 21–23 JUNE 2027

Three focused days on communication, consultation, negotiation, partnerships and feedback, in Nairobi.

01 Register & start learning 02 5 virtual topics 03 7 physical topics · 21–23 Jun 04 Build & defend your engagement plan

Proposed allocation: topics 1–5 are guided online and cover mapping, power and strategy; topics 6–12 are worked through during the three physical days, on your own programme, with a facilitator beside you.

YOUR PRACTICAL OUTCOMES

By the end of the training, this is what you will be able to do.

Explore each topic below. The real test is who defends your programme when you are not in the room.

A CERTIFICATE HAS TO MEAN SOMETHING

How do we know you can build a partnership that holds?

An attendance list is not engagement. What gets checked here is whether you can map power honestly, run a hostile meeting without losing the room, and negotiate an agreement both sides can defend to their own people.

Join the 12-topic pathway →
1
Start from your own organisation

Its real stakeholders, its real opposition and its real dependencies.

2
Find who you have been avoiding

The stakeholder nobody wants to brief, who can cost you the most.

3
Map power against interest

Honestly, including the influence that sits outside the org chart.

4
Hold one properly

A real negotiation or a real hostile meeting, with feedback.

5
Close the loop

What you heard, what you changed because of it, and how they find out.

WHAT YOU LEAVE WITH

A partnership built here, and the skill to build every partnership after it.

The reference material comes with the programme. The thing worth carrying home is your own programme’s stakeholder map, engagement strategy, partnership terms and feedback loop — built here and argued through with peers rather than copied from somewhere else.

A stakeholder map with power and interest scored
An influence map showing who moves whom
An engagement strategy with a method per stakeholder
A one-page brief written for your hardest audience
A negotiation preparation sheet with your walk-away
Partnership terms covering decisions, money and exit
A feedback and complaints loop people will use
Your programme’s own engagement plan — built during training

WHY THIS MATTERS NOW
✦ INFLUENCE, ACCESS, TRUST

Your proposal is judged by people who never read it.

A county office that has to sign it off. A community that has to live with it. A donor with three other priorities. A partner who wants the credit. Each of them decides on what they heard, who told them, and whether they trust you — almost never on the document you spent six weeks writing. Doing that deliberately, instead of hoping it goes well, is what this programme teaches.

What changes for you

You become the one who gets it through.

You walk into the room already knowing who supports you, what each of them needs, and which conversation has to happen first — because you have had the difficult one here, before it counted.

Bring a live programme and the people around it. Most of the work is being honest about who is not yet on your side.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Everything clear before you decide.

What makes this different from other engagement courses?

The programme is built around practical work rather than attendance. You map your own programme’s stakeholders, draft the agreement, and run a real negotiation and a real hostile meeting rather than discussing principles.

Do I have to work through all 12 topics?

Yes. The pathway covers all 12 topics, 5 guided online and 7 in the room, subject to the programme’s formal assessment decisions.

How are the online and physical topics taught?

The first 5 are introduced through guided online work before the workshop and cover mapping, power and engagement strategy. The remaining 7 form the focus of the three physical days in Nairobi, spent on communication, consultation, negotiation, partnerships and feedback.

Does the $80 count toward the total fee?

Yes. Under the standard-fee pathway, the $80 initial payment counts toward $580 and leaves $500 payable. The $480 offer is for early full payment, not the instalment plan.

When and where exactly is the physical training?

The programme is planned for Nairobi, Kenya on 21–23 June 2027. The exact venue will be confirmed by the Vantage Africa team before a final booking commitment.

Is this for programme staff or for partnerships and communications?

Both, and organisations often send one of each. The mapping and strategy topics are written for whoever owns the programme; the negotiation, partnership and feedback topics are written for the people who sit across the table.

Do we need an existing stakeholder plan?

No, though bring what you have. Several participants arrive with a list of friendly contacts and leave with a map that includes the people who could actually stop them.

Can my organisation sponsor me or request a group course?

Yes. Contact Vantage Africa for an invitation letter, invoice or a tailored in-house proposal.
