WHY THIS PROGRAMME?

At the end of the training, we don’t ask: “Did the session go well?”
We ask: “Can anyone in the room do it now?”

Most training is judged on the room: did people turn up, did they enjoy it, did the slides work. None of that tells you whether anybody can do anything differently on Monday.

◎

Design before you deliver

A session built backwards from what people must be able to do, instead of forwards from everything you happen to know.

✧

Hold the room

Keep the quiet ones in it, the loud ones useful, and the session pointed at the objective it was written for.

THE VANTAGE DIFFERENCE

We build trainers people learn from — not trainers people sit through.

A good presenter is admired. A good trainer is copied, because the people in the room leave able to do the thing. That difference is made in the design, long before anybody stands up.

✕WHAT WE AVOID

  • Training judged on how well the trainer performed
  • Slides read aloud to adults
  • Evaluation forms that ask about the lunch

✓WHAT WE DO

  • Sessions designed backwards from what people must be able to do
  • Participation managed, including the person who will not stop talking
  • Evaluation that asks what changed after everyone went back to work
THE 12-TOPIC JOURNEY

12 practical topics. Training people actually use.

The pathway is designed around what you will be able to do. You begin guided virtual learning as soon as you register, then build on it during three practical days in Nairobi, 5–7 April 2027.

5 Topics

VIRTUAL · START IMMEDIATELY

What training is for, finding the real need, and the communication it rests on.

7 Topics

PHYSICAL · 5–7 APRIL 2027

Three focused days designing, delivering and being pulled apart for it, in Nairobi.

01 Register & start learning 02 5 virtual topics 03 7 physical topics · 5–7 Apr 04 Build & defend your plan

Proposed allocation: topics 1–5 are guided online and cover what training is for and the skills it rests on; topics 6–12 are worked through during the three physical days, where you design a session and stand up and deliver it. Every topic is drawn from the current Vantage training of trainers curriculum.

YOUR PRACTICAL OUTCOMES

By the end of the training, this is what you will be able to do.

Explore each topic below. The real test is whether the people in your room can do the thing afterwards.

A CERTIFICATE HAS TO MEAN SOMETHING

How do we know anybody learned anything?

Smiles at the end of a session are not evidence. What gets checked here is whether the objectives were written so that somebody could tell whether they were met, whether the activities actually produce the skill rather than describe it, and whether your evaluation looks past the room at what people did afterwards.

Join the 12-topic pathway →
1
Start from a real training need

Something your organisation genuinely needs people to be able to do.

2
Write objectives you could test

Specific enough that somebody else could tell whether you got there.

3
Design the session

Activities, timings, aids, and the point at which people practise instead of listen.

4
Stand up and deliver it

To peers who have been asked to play the difficult learner on purpose.

5
Evaluate it honestly

Past the feedback form, to what people were doing differently a month later.

WHAT YOU TAKE BACK TO WORK

Take back a session you have already proved.

The reference material comes with the programme. The thing worth carrying home is a session you designed, delivered and rebuilt on what the room told you — so the first people to sit through it are not your colleagues back at work.

Training needs analysis for a real gap
SMART learning objectives for your session
A full session plan with timings and activities
Facilitator notes somebody else could deliver from
Training aids and materials for your topic
A response guide for difficult participants
An evaluation design that reaches past the feedback form
Your own session designed and delivered — during training

WHY VANTAGE AFRICA?

Experience, practice and an uncompromising focus on what people leave able to do.

You are not simply buying training days. You are investing in the person who will run every training your organisation gives from now on, and a community of peers.

🌍

Proven continental experience

18,000+ professionals trained across 30+ countries, including government, NGO and development-sector teams.

🎓

Practitioner-led learning

Guided by Dr. Benson Kiarie and experienced faculty, who have spent twenty years in front of exactly this kind of room.

✓

A session, not just a certificate

Observable work, feedback and practical checks — and a session you have already delivered once, in front of people who were not easy on you.

BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE ROOM
✦ YOU DELIVER, AND YOU GET TOLD

You will train the room before you go home.

Reading about facilitation is not facilitation. Every participant designs a session and delivers part of it to the group — who have been asked not to be kind. One will be on their phone. One will be the expert who disagrees with you. One will say nothing at all. Then you hear what they saw, and you do it again.

Practice delivery

The feedback is the whole point.

Peers and facilitators tell you what worked, where you lost the room and what to change — the uncomfortable hour that does more than the other two days put together.

You leave having been watched, not just having watched.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Everything clear before you decide.

What makes this different from other trainer courses?

The programme is built around practical work rather than attendance. You run a needs analysis, design a session, deliver it in front of peers who are playing difficult on purpose, and rebuild it on what they tell you.

Do I have to work through all 12 topics?

Yes. The pathway covers all 12 topics, 5 guided online and 7 in the room, subject to the programme’s formal assessment decisions.

How are the online and physical topics taught?

The first 5 are introduced through guided online work before the workshop and cover what training is for and the skills it rests on. The remaining 7 form the focus of the three physical days in Nairobi, where you design and deliver.

Does the $80 count toward the total fee?

Yes. Under the standard-fee pathway, the $80 initial payment counts toward $580 and leaves $500 payable. The $480 offer is for early full payment, not the instalment plan.

When and where exactly is the physical training?

The programme is planned for Nairobi, Kenya on 5–7 April 2027. The exact venue will be confirmed by the Vantage Africa team before a final booking commitment.

Do I need to be a trainer already?

No. It suits anybody who has to pass on skill: supervisors inducting new staff, technical specialists asked to brief colleagues, and M&E or programme officers who run workshops as part of the job.

Do I have to deliver in front of everybody?

Yes, and it is the part people are most grateful for afterwards. You deliver a portion of your session, not the whole thing, to a group who are in exactly the same position.

Can my organisation sponsor me or request a group course?

Yes. Contact Vantage Africa for an invitation letter, invoice or a tailored in-house proposal.
